Intern Wanted

Leah Creation is looking for an intern! Leah is swamped with work, and would love someone to assist her with her duties while also learning the trade secrets from the master herself!

The ideal candidate is a college student majoring in Jewelry, Fashion, Design or Marketing, with impeccable craftsmanship. Leah needs someone organized and detail-oriented, with an interest in learning everything about jewelry making and selling. Computer skills are also needed, particularly with Microsoft Excel and basic web skills, and writing skills for promotions such as email blasts and social media.


Duties include:

• Updating the Leah Creation website regularly
• Composing a weekly email blast
• Updating Facebook and Twitter
• Ordering supplies, both online and from Jeweler's Row
• Answer emails and write up custom orders
• Assist with record keeping and organizing merchandise
• Work some weekends with Leah at shows and other appearances.

Rewards include:

• Learning everything about manufacturing the Vintage Vinyl jewelry line
• Learning the process and skills to create fine jewelry models and finishing work.
• Learn how to start a business from the ground up
• Learn the ins and outs of vending and booking, and how to throw your own events
• Earn college credits

Fab Friday

T.G.I.F, y'all!  How's your weekend look?  Leah will be at the Plan B Art Party tonight at Bookspace in Fishtown with her full line for sale. This BYOB event is really shaping up with dozens of artists, performers and vendors and almost 150 guests confirmed, so check it out and be sure to look for Leah!

Diana Ross/"I'm Coming out" Motown earrings

A little Motown seemed fitting after yesterday's MJ post, and one of Diana's many self-assumed claims to fame was that she discovered the Jackson 5.  It was actually Gladys Knight who brought the Jacksons to the attention of Motown and Berry Gordy, but facts were never Ms. Ross's strong suit.  Being The Boss is what she does best, and her Diva-tude is on full display here (and she's still milking the Michael connection):





So sorry we missed the rest of this special!  Not only MJ, the Joffrey Ballet and Quincy Jones, but Larry Hagman, too?  This was 1980 so it seems even Diana was dying to know who shot J.R.  Have a great weekend everyone!

Cuz this is Thriller!

Leah is not just an artist and jewelry maker, she's also an archeologist of sorts.  Her "digs" are flea markets, yard sales and trash cans, and her finds are amazing artifacts from the vintage vinyl era. 


She recently came across Michael Jackson's Thriller...hardly a rarity.  At 110 million copies sold, it's the best selling album of all time.  


Still, a lot of those copies were later downloads, or cds, or especially cassettes, which were just eclipsing vinyl in popularity in 1982.  And those who did buy vinyl would tend to keep MJ's greatest album, with that iconic cover art, don't you think?

Leah gave it a spin for her nephew (teach your kids the classics!), but the platter was scratched beyond use. 


Gavin's history lesson on the King of Pop will have to wait, but Leah is admittedly thrilled to transform Thriller into some thrilling new earrings, a necklace or pendant, maybe a tie clip and belt set...as always, the shapes and forms are endless under Leah's careful crafting.  But with Thriller?  The results could be "Epic"!

As for Gavin, we suggest Leah include a music video or two in her lesson, since Michael did practically invent the art form.  Everyone remembers the zombies from "Thriller" and the gang dance-off from "Beat It", but for our money, nothing beats the leather tuxedo and light up sidewalks of "Billie Jean".  Enjoy!

Plan B

Mom always said, when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade, right? Actually our mom said you turn chicken shit into chicken salad, but you get the idea.  

It's sort of Leah's philosophy: take a scratched up old record and turn it into something artistic and appreciated again (check out her biggest new find here).  

Anyway, when this Friday's Pancakes and Booze Art Party was cancelled due to "circumstances beyond their control", the local organizers and artists involved went to Plan B: the Plan B Art Party, a BYOB event this Friday March 11th at Bookspace in Fishtown.

Bookspace is aptly named: it's a giant industrial space filled with used books for sale, plus art, artifacts and (of course) vinyl.  Leah is joining dozens of other artists as they fill the place with art, music, refreshment and good people. 

So bring friends, a bottle or two, and join the fun in this amazing space.  They're also looking for more artists, especially musicians, performers, DJs and vendors, so anyone interested in signing up should email bookspace09@gmail.com.  

Plan B Art Party is at Bookspace, 1113 Frankford Avenue, this Friday starting at 8pm.

We mentioned this earlier, but Leah Creation is now being sold online at Fashionstake.com!  Go to the designers tab and click "meet the designers", or just go here.

Movin' on up....

We really can't say it any better than this:

Leah Creation MOVED this weekend, to nicer, more spacious digs a few blocks away.  Not quite a Deluxe Apartment in the Sky, but still, a good move!  

Leah works at home so when the house moves, the business moves with her.  Anyone who's ever moved to a new home can relate to the stress and upheaval it causes, but imagine moving your workspace, too?  


Things are still being set up, but we'll soon have pics of Leah's new studio space...she's most excited about her new double workbench!  Leah says "Thanks to Jane Theis for the tip and Jason Robbins from Robbins Diamonds for supplying me with my new bench and a ton of new displays. Jackpot!!!"  Like they say on the commercial, Robbins Rocks!  Congrats, Leah!
