Touch of Jerry

Leah is off to San Diego this week, but left some video requests behind.  We'll get to all of them soon, but for today we're focusing on The Grateful Dead.

Today is the 16th anniversary of Jerry Garcia's death, and he would have turned 69 on August 1st.  Leah requested some Dead songs from YouTube in his honor:

Lights, Cameras, LEAH!

Did you guys watch?  Philly's NBC-10 aired a great profile of our favorite artist/culture recycler/jewelry maker, watch it here.
Leah says...

"The shoot was great. My friend Chelsea Mick came at 8am to do my makeup. She made me feel beautiful!

Casie McShane did my hair the night before. I had to have my orange and purple hair beam.

Marge, aka Jen Opdycke, my right hand woman was there as my stage hand.

David Palmer was the amazing and a talented videographer. He made me feel so comfortable.

It was such am exciting day. No bloopers but I was pretty nervous. You can see my hand shaking a bit. But otherwise I was cool calm and collected.

You looked pretty cool to us, Leah!  And now for some Friday video requests, from our new TV star...have a great weekend!

Summertime...

...and the living's easy for Leah!  Our favorite fashion plate has been taking it easy the past few weeks, enjoying some sun and fun shoreside, and soaking up the AC when in town (is it gross out or what?)

That doesn't mean she's stopped working.  Or working it.  Our gal snagged an interview with Philly's NBC-10 about the Leah Creation line!  Leah chatted up a news guy at the Sunny shoot last month and worked her charm, and right now she's sitting down in front of the cameras!  A full update soon of course.

In the meantime let's chill out with some summer songs as requested by Leah!

Fab Friday, Sunny-Style

You can always count on Leah for a good story:

"Yesterday was an epic day!!!!!

"Started out great...my friend and her gf came to town from British Columbia and stayed the night. So of course I walked them to the mega bus and donned them with some Leah Creation earrings.

"I had to go to Jewelers Row to pick up an amazing wedding band I made from my polisher. My client was thrilled!

"It's Always Sunny was filming on Samson Street, J-Row (my second neighborhood)... Before I left the house I grabbed a pair in case I bumped into "Sweet Dee" Kaitlin Olsen

"They were the perfect pair. 4th and Bway label Summer Girls from Dino. She loved the earrings, me, my sense of humor and my tattoo! She said "I want to wear them now!"

"As the crew was leading her to her next shot I said as we were parting, "Is that what it's like to be a celebrity cause i'm just a Philebrity" That got a chuckle!"

Speaking of "sunny", don't forget you can catch Leah and her Vintage Vinyl line at Clark Park's Summer Solstice festival tomorrow from noon 'til sundown!

Leah had some video requests for this post, starting with a clip of Sweet Dee herself...Leah also wanted Dino's Summer Girls, but an online search turned up nothing but his better known hit "I Like It", and those homemade videos that fans post.  Still, a YouTube oddity is always fun for a laugh, so scroll down and enjoy!

Clark Park Summer Solstice

Come join Leah at Clark Park this Saturday, June 25th for their Summer Solstice festival!  The event features live music and performances, food, children's entertainment and arts and crafts vendors.

See the event's Facebook page or their blog for all the details.  The park alone is reason to get outdoors and enjoy summer, it's one of the nicest green spots in Philly.

The solstice is actually today; for the next six months the days will be getting shorter, so soak up that sun while you can!

Unfortunately in Philly right now, grey skies are blocking those rays and thunderstorms are in the forecast.  Leah requested a special, summery playlist (from her own collection!) to brighten everyone's day, and chase those storm clouds away:

Ling Forward!

Leah had a great day at Lingfest last weekend!  There was a huge turnout for Philadelphia Flea Markets, and plenty of people mingled in the center of Jefferson Square where Lingfest was held.  It was a great success for Girls Rock Philly!  We hear the party afterwards was a lot of fun, too!

Leah is looking forward to a summer of more fun (and successful shows!)...she is taking all of her considerable energy and putting it into her beautiful work, and the awesome people it brings into her life!  Thanks to everyone who helped make Lingfest a success!

Now some overdue video requests, Leah asked for some Mary J. Blige.  Enjoy!

Lingfest!

Tomorrow is the big day: Lingfest, Leah's combination art and design showcase-fundraiser-birthday bash!

Lingfest kicks off at 10am at Jefferson Square Park in South Philly, in conjunction with Philadelphia Flea Markets' all day outdoor Festival.

Lingfest will showcase 10 local art vendors (like these here) exhibiting handmade original art in a variety of media, as well as live musicians, food, flea market, raffles and more. Lingfest is free and open to the public!

GreeneHouse Studios, in accordance with our philosophy of encouraging young artists and giving back to the community, will hold a raffle in between music sets from 11:30am- 4pm.

Proceeds from the raffle go towards "Girls Rock Philly", an organization "dedicated to providing girls from the greater Philadelphia region with a positive all-female musical environment" through the sponsorship of local Rock and Roll camps.

Join the GreeneHouse gang after the big event for drinks and dancing at the 2nd Street Brew House (formally Raw Dogs) in South Philly, starting at 8pm. They offer rotating taps and extensive bottle selection.

The evening closes with Hip-hop and R&B throwbacks from our favorite South Philly twins, Vinyl-Saurus Wrexx!

Tattoo News

Leah's getting another tattoo soon!  An addition actually, to the rendering of her orange record player on her arm.

Right now Michael Jackson's Off The Wall is on display, but Leah wants Jerome Gunn at Tru Blu Tatu to add Diana Ross's Diana to the mix!

Of course this is an excuse for a long overdue video break.  Enjoy the music, and check in this week for more news on Saturday's Lingfest!

Big Weekend

Leah got right back into the swing of things after returning from Italy this week.  She had to, with two shows this weekend and Lingfest coming up on June 4th.

We told you about Saturday's Trenton Avenue Arts Festival; be sure to stop by if you're in or near East Kensington tomorrow between noon and 5pm.

Sunday is the Punk Rock Flea Market, a bi-annual event with proceeds used to insure (literally) all-ages shows for under-aged fans.  Pay 3 measley bucks to peruse over 200 tables of old records, clothes, art, crafts, treasures, junk and everything in between.  This Sunday May 22, 10am to 5pm, at 461 N. 9th Street in Philly.  See you there!

Trenton Avenue Arts Festival

Leah will be back from Italy in time for this Saturday's Trenton Avenue Arts Festival in East Kensington!

Sponsored by the East Kensington Neighbor's association, the fest celebrates the neighborhood's mix of artists, musicians and eateries.

Thousands flock to Trenton Avenue every year to browse over 150 art vendors, listen to live music by local artists, and enjoy food and treats for every taste. The weather will be sunny and warm so come out, see Leah and enjoy the day!

Go to the event's Facebook page for event info, and check out their blog for a complete line up of vendors, including artist profiles, and their Flickr page for photos of past festivals.

Lingfest Spotlight: Break Away Ink Apparel

A wide range of local artists and designers will be with Leah at Lingfest June 4th!

Check out Break Away Ink Apparel and their line of graphic t-shirts, hats and casual wear:

They have a great website (check out the lookbook), and their Facebook page sums up their philosophy:

"BreakawayINK exists for those who respect the true meaning in the arts, music, design... whatever it might be.

The goal is to keep you folks walking tall. Walk on, walk strong. Break Away."

In addition to Lingfest, you can shop Break Away Ink through their website, or visit Nestology in the King of Prussia Mall.  Check out Leah's line there, too!  These looks would definitely work with a little Vintage Vinyl.

Leah is still accepting applications from local artists and craftspeople looking to show their handmade items, with proceeds benefitting Girls Rock Philly.  Read more about the event here.

Lingfest Spotlight: Dana Davis, Material Poetry

Don't forget Lingfest is a little more than 3 weeks away!

Leah is organizing the event at Philadelphia Flea Market's June 4th outing at Jefferson Square Park.

One artist to look for is Dana Davis of Material Poetry.  Her unique, handmade jewelry has "vintage flair and a neo-Victorian, steam punk attitude!"

Dana explains: "All items are handmade, with my favorite materials: lace, pearls, feathers, up-cycled vintage and antique jewelry, watch parts and keys.  Every piece is unique and one of a kind, some may be copied in style, but never identical".

Her work includes all kinds of jewelry, including feathered hair adornments that can double as shoulder plates.  Check out her line here and be sure to look for her (and Leah) at Lingfest!

Leah is still accepting applications from local artists and craftspeople looking to show their handmade items, with proceeds benefitting Girls Rock Philly.  Read more about the event here.

Spring-A-Ling

Leah's Spring calendar is filling up!

Tomorrow is the Tru Blu Tatu Art Show in Bristol, PA. Leah loves these guys, and they're celebrating their 6th anniversary with this free art show.

This FREE party features original artwork and crafts from over a dozen artists and vendors (including Leah of course), food & drink, and a just confirmed an acoustic set from our friends Clashing Plaid -- that alone is worth coming for!

Leah got inked by Jerome Gunn a few weeks ago:

"Jerome did an amazing job on my Fisher Price Record Player piece. The new addition is Michael Jackson Off The Wall album cover. It should be healed soon and pics will follow."

Saturday is the Prospect Park Craft Fair in Brooklyn.  Held annually on the day before Mother's Day, local artists and craftspeople share and sell their handmade goods among the beautiful springtime park setting.  Leah will be there, so if you need a last minute gift for mom, stop by!

Located in the Bartel Pritchard entrance drive to Prospect Park at 15th Street and Prospect Park West, the fair offers easy access from the 15th St./Prospect Park "F" train, B75, B69 and B68.

And Sunday, Leah and Jonelle are off to Italy for some much needed R&R.  After that it's the Trenton Avenue Arts Festival,  the Punk Rock Flea Market, and Lingfest, Leah's birthday party and fundraiser for Girls Rock Philly, held during Philadelphia Flea Markets' June 4th event at Jefferson Square in South Philly.

Leah is donating her proceeds from organizing this event-within-an-event to Girls Rock Philly, an organization "dedicated to providing girls from the greater Philadelphia region with a positive all-female musical environment" by sponsoring local Rock and Roll camps.  How cool is that?

Lingfest brings together local artists and craftspeople to showcase their hand-produced, original works. There is limited space left, so please send your application and $45 fee via PayPal to Jonal814@gmail.com.
